Mark Noble’s penalty rebound secured victory for the Hammers on Wednesday night.

Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton has told his club’s official website that West Ham United’s winning goal on Wednesday night should not have counted as he was fouled by Michail Antonio before the penalty was given.

The Clarets went down 1-0 to the Hammers at the London Stadium thanks to Mark Noble’s goal in first-half injury time as the home side’s captain converted the rebound from his own penalty after Heaton had saved from the spot.

The victory saw Slaven Bilic’s side build on their encouraging draw with Liverpool at Anfield at the weekend as they look to clamber clear of relegation danger over the next three weeks or so.

However, Heaton is adamant that their winner should not have happened as they should never have been given a penalty in the first place; rather, he thinks he should have had a free-kick for a foul.

The England stopper told Burnley’s website: “I thought it was a foul on me. Big Andy Carroll got a head on it. I went up to punch it away and I think it was Michail Antonio jumped into me and moved my arm and the other lad has also jumped in.

“I thought it was a foul at the time and I haven’t changed my opinion yet.

“I try not to moan at referees at too much. It’s a tough job. Rarely do I give them any grief but the fact that is I thought it was a foul.”

The fact of the matter is that West Ham and their supporters will not care a bit about Heaton’s complaints, as they finally secured their first league win since they edged out Sunderland on 22 October.

That victory saw them climb up to 15th in the Premier League table, and put four points between themselves and the relegation zone.
