Paul Merson says Burnley have done well in the summer transfer window.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson says that Burnley have done “well” in the summer transfer window, and he expects Sean Dyche to keep the Clarets in the Premiership for the upcoming season.
Merson says that there are many who feel that Burnley could go down this season, but he holds different opinion.
The reason being that Burnley have done brilliantly to replace some of their star players.
Burnley have lost their star striker Andre Gray to Watford (£18 million), and defender Michael Keane to Everton (£30 million), for a combined fee of £48 million.
The Clarets have also let Michael Kightly and George Boyd leave on free transfers to Southend and Sheffield Wednesday, respectively.
Dyche has used the money effectively by signing Chris Wood from Leeds United who was the top scorer in Championship last season.
The 25-year-old already looks like a cracking signing, as he scored on his Premiership debut against Tottenham Hotspur.
Other notable signings in the likes of Jon Walters, Jack Cork, Charlie Taylor, and Nahki Wells, joined from Stoke City, Swansea City, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town, respectively.
“I like what they’ve done. They’ve let Andre Gray and Michael Keane go for big money, but have brought in some good players,” said Merson to Sky Sports.
“Chris Wood is a good forward, Nahki Wells will look to prove himself, Jon Walters is a good professional and I like Jack Cork as well. People tell me they could go down, but I don’t see that at all. Sean Dyche has done well.”
