Joey Barton yesterday clinched his switch to Rangers, with the club confirming the deal via their official website.
The midfielder leaves Burnley after just one season, but a successful one, having played a key part in their promotion winning campaign and being voted into the Championship team of the season.
Burnley’s Joey Barton
Barton has played in the Premier League several times before most recently with QPR, and admitted to Rangers TV that the chance to play in Scotland and compete for trophies was a big reason behind deciding to join.
The Gers have recently earned promotion back to the Scottish Premiership, and hope Barton’s arrival is the catalyst for them challenging Celtic at the top of the table next season.

His exit is a loss for the Clarets, but at the same time it must be remembered he was a late signing for the club last summer, and manager Sean Dyche had planned without him through pre-season until the chance to snap him up for free arose.
Promotion to the Premier League provides new funds and the chance to sign a younger more expensive player than 33-year-old Barton, but he is certainly a character which will leave a void in the dressing room.
Here is a look at how Burnley fans reacted to Barton’s decision to sign with Rangers…
