Burnley fans react on Twitter to defeat to Southampton

Burnley suffered a 3-1 defeat to Southampton yesterday at the St Mary’s stadium.

Burnley’s poor defending resulted in the Clarets fifth defeat this season, goals from Charlie Austin and Nathan Redmond was enough to secure victory for Southampton.

The Clarets managed to prevent Southampton from scoring in the first-half. However, Sean Dyche side couldn’t deny the Saints any longer after the break. Two goals came from former Burnley striker Charlie Austin. Since leaving Burnley in 2013, Austin has scored four goals in four matches against his former club.

The striker opened the scoreline and then doubled his tally with a penalty, Burnley’s defence was at fault again as Nathan Redmond beat Tom Heaton with a low strike. A Sam Vokes penalty in the 72-minute saved the Clarets from a beating. The visitors had a strong penalty appeal denied in the first half after Van Dijk fouled Gudmundsson.

Southampton were the stronger side, Burnley struggled to find any weakness in the Saints side. The win for Southampton is Claude Puel’s third this season. The Saints are slowly moving their way up the table and are now up to eighth. The defeat for Burnley means that they remain in 14th.
