The Mirror (16th August, page 67) claimed that Newcastle United are interested in signing Burnley’s Chris Wood this summer.

The New Zealand international is a hugely important player for the Clarets having hit double digits in goals in each of the last three seasons in the Premier League.

Wood scored 14 times last season, which is a stunning return for someone who plays in a team that doesn’t score too many.

Newcastle need a new striker. Joelinton’s woes in front of goal have been well-publicised, while Dwight Gayle isn’t the answer for the Magpies in the long run.

The report claims that Newcastle, along with Southampton, are plotting a £13 million move for Wood which has left many Burnley fans baffled.

The Clarets faithful understand why clubs are looking at a player of Wood’s quality, but a few of them have taken offence to the reported price that the two Premier League sides are looking to pay.

Burnley paid a club-record £15 million to Leeds United for Wood just three years ago. (BBC) After three impressive seasons at the club, there is no way the Clarets will make a loss on him, especially considering that he still has three years left on his contract.

Some Burnley supporters took to social media to make their feelings known about their rivals’ interest in Wood. It is safe to say that none of them are happy with the reported £13 million figure mentioned in the report.

Here is how a few of them reacted on Twitter:
