Burnley defender Jimmy Dunne is set to further his development after joining League Two side Accrington Stanley on loan for the rest of the season.

Dunne featured regularly at centre-back for National League side Barrow in the first half of the campaign and produced some excellent performances, but that temporary switch has ended and he has now linked up with Accrington, as reported by The Lancashire Telegraph.

The 20-year-old could make his Accrington debut in Saturday’s league game at home to Chesterfield.

Born in the Republic of Ireland, Dunne was at Manchester United’s academy before signing for Burnley in 2016. He has yet to make a senior appearance for Sean Dyche’s side but will hope that he can now prove his credentials in the football league.

Burnley have been widely praised for their defensive resilience this season, with Ben Mee and James Tarkowski striking up a formidable partnership at the heart of the back four, and as a consequence it will be difficult for Dunne to make the breakthrough at the club in the longterm unless there are some significant departures.

However, for now Dunne will be focused on gaining as much experience as he possibly can.
