Burnley manager Sean Dyche believes Dundee United midfielder Stuart Armstrong won’t be signing for the Clarets.
Burnley manager Sean Dyche spoke to the media today ahead of his side’s trip to face Sunderland this weekend, and confirmed he’d seen a bid rejected for a player.
That player is Dundee United’s Stuart Armstrong, with the Terrors reportedly turning down bids from Burnley as well as Scottish giants Celtic today, according to the BBC.
The 22-year-old midfielder has impressed at Tannadice, hitting 11 goals and 11 assists last season, as well as scoring six league goals this season – all of which have come in his last nine games.
The Clarets are looking for reinforcements as they look to stay in the top flight, with Dyche’s men positioned one point above the drop zone as we come to the end of the transfer window.
West Brom midfielder Graham Dorrans has also been linked with a move to Turf Moor, but after seeing a bid turned down for Armstrong, Dyche suggested he was out of the race for his signature, as reported by talkSPORT.
“Different offers have been in for players. One’s been rejected today,” he said. “He was more of a development style player in our world – a good young player we think who could learn with us. That won’t happen now, by the looks of things.”
“We’ve had offers in for more recognised players that haven’t got over the line at the moment, but we’ll see where that takes us,” added Dyche.
Dyche’s admission leaves Celtic in pole position to land Armstrong, and having already snapped up his Dundee United team mate Gary Mackay-Steven on a pre-contract agreement, they may be confident of reuniting the duo.
