Burnley manager Sean Dyche has today been speaking about what this summer holds for the Clarets in terms of transfers.
As reported by the Lanacashire Telegraph, Sean Dyche has suggested that Burnley will make a marquee signing this summer, as the club try to strengthen ahead of the 2018/19 season.
Burnley stunned everybody last term by finishing in seventh place in the Premier League, and will take on Aberdeen over two legs to qualify for the Europa League.
Should they get past their Scottish opponents, it’ll mean they’ll be in for long and arduous season as they compete in four competitions, and Dyche knows he needs to make some signings soon.
The Lancashire Telegraph have quoted the 47-year-old as saying there is a ‘strong chance’ the club will break their club transfer record this summer, with the current holder of that title being Chris Wood after his £15 million move from Leeds United in 2017.
Dyche said: “There’s a strong chance, just by the fact that clubs now act as agents. It’s the irony of football that clubs question agents, but if you put a bid in for someone, as if by magic, it’s out on the wires within seconds. That’s the nature of the game.
“We definitely need more numbers, we’re not deep in numbers, we know that. We want quality numbers, we don’t just want any old player who can fill a slot, we want players who can be competitive.”
The Clarets are reportedly interested in £25 million-rated West Brom duo Craig Dawson and Jay Rodriguez, and are second favourites with some bookmakers according to football.london to sign West Ham utility man Michail Antonio.
With Georges-Kevin N’Koudou having gone back to parent club Tottenham Hotspur after his loan spell, the Clarets could make use of someone like Antonio, who can also operate comfortably in a number of different positions.
With pre-season now under way, it’ll be important for Dyche to get some players in, so that he can start getting them prepared for what could be a very tough season.
