Frustrated Burnley manager Sean Dyche has criticised the reaction from Leeds United fans to Chris Wood and Charlie Taylor.
Former academy star Taylor left Leeds in the summer when his contract ended, while Wood pushed through a £15 million move to Burnley last month.
Leeds beat Burnley on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Turf Moor last night and both players received stick from supporters.
Quoted by The Express, Dyche said the criticism was ‘strange’ and felt the boos were unfair.
He said: “It’s a strange business, football, twenty-odd million they’ve made for a club (in transfer fees) and they get slaughtered. I don’t know any more how fans react to players, ex-players, all that stuff, but that’s football now.
“Those two have been fantastic servants to Leeds, if I’m honest. But Woody has done fantastically, walking on to our pitch and scoring, and again in the shootout.”
Chris Wood was Leeds’ top scorer last season with 27 league goals and losing him was a blow, but the club have so far coped admirably and shared the goals around. Currently they sit top of the Championship.
Charlie Taylor was a very different matter, with the left-back infuriating fans on the last day of the season, with former boss Garry Monk stating that the defender had refused to play in the match with Wigan.
The left-back departed without defending himself or saying goodbye, and there should be no surprise at the vitriol directed towards him.
