Burnley appear to have beaten Premier League rivals West Ham United to Genk star Mike Tresor Ndayishimiye with Vincent Kompany’s side agreeing personal terms.

That is according to Het Laaste Nieuws; the Belgian publication reporting that Tresor is conspicuous by his absence from the Genk squad travelling to Turkey for Thursday’s UEFA Conference League qualifier away to Adana Demirspor.

One of the most creative players in Europe last season – only one man bettered his remarkable tally of 24 assists in all competitions – Tresor has reportedly agreed personal terms with Burnley. Talks between Genk and the Clarets are ongoing and are, furthermore, proving to be rather ‘constructive’, to quote HLN.

Burnley agree terms with Genk star Mike Tresor

Kompany is a long-time admirer of the former Willem II talisman. The Burnley boss enquired after taking over from Sean Dyche at Turf Moor in 2022, and it seems that the admiration between coach and player goes both ways.

“I have learned that he (Kompany) appreciates my qualities. Of course, that is nice to hear,” 24-year-old Tresor told Het Laatste Nieuws recently.

“He plays with Burnley with a certain philosophy in which I would feel good. For me, playing style has always been important when choosing a club.”

Kompany’s possession-based approach certainly appears to suit Tresor more than David Moyes’ rather reactive West Ham side. The Hammers defeated Brighton 3-1 at The Amex on Saturday despite boasting just 22 per cent of the ball.

Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri reported West Ham’s interest last week. It is not hard to imagine, however, that Moyes’ side saw Tresor as a potential alternative to Mohammed Kudus, given that both players tend to do most of their best work either as an attacking midfielder or when drifting in from the wing.

Tresor, meanwhile, will become the latest in a long line of Jupiler League stars to swap Belgium for Burnley, following in the footsteps of Josh Cullen, Vitinho, Manuel Benson, Lyle Foster and co.
