Tottenham Hotspur’s Kevin Wimmer has failed to force his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans so far this term.
Reports emanating from Germany today suggest that Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach are interested in signing Spurs defender Kevin Wimmer, as reported by one of Germany’s leading newspapers the Express.
The 24-year-old Austrian has struggled for both game time and form so far this season, and has made just one Premier League appearance for Tottenham, in which he scored an own goal during their 1-1 draw with Arsenal.
The report from the Express claim that Monchengladbach’s interest in Wimmer has stemmed from the fact that they fear they will lose Andreas Christensen, who is likely to return to Chelsea on a full time basis when his loan-deal with the club comes to an end.
A move away from White Hart Lane would seem to be beneficial to both Wimmer and his club, with Mauricio Pochettino’s preference of dropping Eric Dier back into defence when one of his first-choice centre-backs are missing through injury or suspension making the Austrian’s route into the starting XI even more problematic.

The former FC Koln defender’s contract with Tottenham does not expire until the summer of 2021, so he will surely still command a fairly substantial transfer fee, should the German club decide to pursue their reported interest and make a concrete offer for the Austrian.
