Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been dissecting Arsenal’s performance against Manchester City this weekend, reserving special praise for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

The Gunners may have lost against City at the weekend, but they put up one hell of a fight.

Indeed, Mikel Arteta’s side ran City ragged in the first-half, they were direct, quick and they created a number of brilliant chances.

They took the lead through Saka, and Ferdinand was blown away by what he’d seen from the England international and his teammate Martinelli.

What’s Ferdinand said about Saka and Martinelli?

The Manchester United legend was full of praise for the two wingers.

“I have to say, the first half from Arsenal was the best I’ve seen for years. If that’s a sign of things to come then you guys have some good stuff coming. Your two wide players Bukayo Saka and Martinelli, they just bullied and scared the life out of the City team, and you played with some authority,” Ferdinand said.

Dominant in the future

Saka and Martinelli managed to get the better of the best team in the Premier League for 45 minutes on Saturday, and in the future, they could be doing that on a weekly basis.

When you watch the pair play, it’s easy to forget just how young they are, and in years to come, they could be absolutely dominant.

Factor in that Emile Smith Rowe is another young option and you have a fearsome threesome coming through at Arsenal.

The Gunners didn’t get the result at the weekend, but they can come away from that game feeling very proud of their performance.
