Newcastle United have reportedly lost out to Swansea City in the battle for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.

Newcastle United look set to miss out on Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, with The Mirror claiming that he has instead chosen to join Swansea City.
The Magpies have already struck one deal with Chelsea by signing winger Christian Atsu on a permanent basis, but manager Rafael Benitez was also looking to lure Abraham to St. James’ Park.

Whilst Dwight Gayle impressed last season, question marks hang over the futures of both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Daryl Murphy, meaning Benitez may be looking for another target man striker.
Abraham, who stands at 6ft 4in, certainly fits the bill, and is coming off a blistering loan spell with Bristol City in the Championship, where he scored 26 goals in 48 appearances for the Robins.

Now, the 19-year-old is back with parent club Chelsea, but the Blues appear to have no first-team plans for him right now, and intend to loan him out to another Premier League club to further his development.
Whilst Newcastle had been leading the race for Abraham, The Mirror now claim that the England Under-21 international has chosen to join Swansea on loan, leaving Newcastle snubbed.

The news has unsurprisingly sparked a reaction from Newcastle fans on Twitter, but many supporters are actually relieved that Abraham isn’t heading to Tyneside, with many believing that Newcastle should be aiming higher and can’t afford to rely on a teenage striker with no Premier League experience.
Others were concerned about signing a player on loan with no purchase option, a la Loic Remy, with many believing that Newcastle may have in fact dodged a bullet by missing out on Abraham’s signature.
