Gary Neville has said on ITV (10:58pm, July 11, 2021) that Arsenal and England international winger Bukayo Saka should hold his head high despite his failure to score from the penalty spot against Italy.
Arsenal youngster Saka failed to score in the penalty shootout during England’s defeat to Italy in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley Stadium in London tonight.
The final finished 1-1 after extra time, and Italy won the penalty shootout 3-2.
Saka, 19, could not get his spot kick past Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, which saw the Italians win the final.
Former Manchester United and England international defender Neville has said that Saka should be proud.
Neville said about Saka on ITV (10:58pm, July 11, 2021): “Absolutely heartbreaking for the boy. Gone are the days whereby the penalty takers that miss get criticised and lambasted.
“Everybody has loved this boy for the last few weeks, they will love him in the next few weeks as well. He has been absolutely brilliant.
“That young man there, hold your head high because we are going to look after him now for the next few months.”
Bukayo Saka should be proud
Saka was brilliant for Arsenal last season, and the winger did well for England at the European Championship this summer.
Yes, the teenager could not score from 12 yards tonight, but that should not take away from the fact that he is a very good player.
Also, Saka is 19.
Yes, just 19, and he was taking a penalty in the shootout of a final.
The European Championship final.
That shows his character.
Saka will bounce back from the disappointment tonight.
And so will England.
