According to the Mail, Arsenal are interested in signing both Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez, but we have to wonder what this would mean for their current players.

It’s hard to imagine that Mahrez or Sterling would move to Arsenal unless they were guaranteed first-team football, so what would this mean for Bukayo Saka?

It’s hard to imagine that Saka would be guaranteed a starting spot on a weekly basis if Mahrez and Sterling joined the Gunners, or at least not in his favourite position.

Saka is best being used as a winger, but his versatility means he can play as either a full-back or a midfielder, and if the Manchester City pair join the Gunners, Saka may be played in one of those roles.

Saka has previously said that his best position is in the attack, and this season, he’s been given the chance to play in his favourite role, but as good as he is, it’s hard to imagine he’d be ahead of Sterling and Mahrez in the pecking order if they came in, and that’s before we even factor in the likes of Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Of course, Sterling and Mahrez signing for Arsenal is some way off coming to fruition at the moment, but these rumours haven’t come from nowhere and there’s every chance that these links have some substance to them.

If they do join up, Saka has every right to be fuming.

Saka has proven himself to be one of the Gunners’ most important players this season while playing on the wing, but for some reason, Edu and Arteta seem to be looking into signing two elite wide players who could realistically take his place.

If they join, you’d have to imagine that Saka will either spend more time on the bench or more time playing in an unfavourable position, and after the season he’s had, it’d be completely understandable if he was annoyed about this.
