Bukayo Saka has admitted that he has been very surprised to see how good Arsenal-linked Ben White is.
White was a surprise addition to Gareth Southgate’s England side for Euro 2020.
He hasn’t yet played in the competition, but the Brighton & Hove Albion defender has been mixing it with the Three Lions stars in training – including Arsenal winger Saka.
Asked which player surprised him the most, Saka said: “Earlier I said I was impressed the most by Ben White because obviously I haven’t seen him a lot this season. Coming here and playing with him, I’ve been impressed.”
Is Ben White joining Arsenal?
Well, that’s definitely the rumour.
According to a report from The Athletic on Thursday, Arsenal are one step away from signing the former Leeds United loanee in what would be a £50 million move.
It’s a big statement of intent from the Gunners, who finished eighth in the Premier League table last term for the second season in succession.
With Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis and David Luiz all leaving the Emirates Stadium over the past six months, Mikel Arteta needs one or two centre-backs during the summer and White would represent a solid start to their business.
There’s some Arsenal fans who will argue that the North Londoners need attackers – specifically a number 10 and a striker – more than defenders right now.
And they’re right, but let’s not pretend Arteta doesn’t also need to bolster the defence and going by Saka’s comments, he’d be delighted to have White as a team-mate at club level, too.
