Sheffield Wednesday host Sheffield United in the Championship in the first Steel City Derby in five years – it’s fair to say the fans are excited.
Fans arrive at Hillsborough stadium.
This weekend one of the biggest rivalries in English football returns for the first time in five years as Sheffield Wednesday host Sheffield United in the Steel City Derby.
The last time these two met was back in February 2012 when both sides were in League One. A solitary goal from Chris O’Grady was enough to seal a 1-0 victory for the hosts at Hillsborough that day.
Sheffield United fans sing during the Sky Bet Championship match between against Norwich City at Bramall Lane.
The Owls would go on to be promoted at the end of that season, while United lost to Huddersfield Town in the playoff final and took another five seasons to finally haul themselves out of the third tier.
So it is fair to say the anticipation for this match has been coming for some time, made all the more exciting by the fact that after eight games in the Championship so far this term, just two points separate the Blades in sixth and Wednesday in ninth.
Here is what the pundits and journalists think might happen during the clash in the blue and white half of Sheffield on Sunday (September 24).
Meanwhile the fans of both clubs can barely contain themselves.
