PSG are reportedly close to signing Gianluigi Buffon; a move that could see alleged Newcastle United target Alphonse Areola leave.

Gianluigi Buffon’s potential arrival at Paris Saint-Germain could force Alphonse Areola out of the club, according to reports in France, with Newcastle United interested in signing the goalkeeper.
Buffon is looking for a new club after a trophy-laden 17 years with the Bianconeri and will officially leave Turin when his contract expires on 30 June. The 40-year-old has a number of options, including some from the Premier League, but Ligue 1 champions are now close to signing him up, according to Sky Sports.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi recently insisted Areola would remain first choice goalkeeper under new manager Thomas Tuchel next season but Buffon’s arrival could change that. L’Equipe now claim the 25-year-old will not be satisfied serving as the veteran Italian’s understudy and will now consider moving on.

Just last week, France Football reported Rafa Benitez remains keen on bringing Areola to Newcastle after an initial attempt last summer and the arrival of Buffon in the French capital could act as a real boost to the club’s attempts to bring him to Tyneside.
Napoli and Crystal Palace are also credited as interested parties in Areola, whose current deal at PSG expires next summer.
