Leeds were linked with a move for Gianluigi Buffon this week.

Bizarre reports over the weekend via The Mail claimed Leeds United were showing interest in bringing free agent Gianluigi Buffon to Elland Road.

After managing to secure manager Marcelo Bielsa’s services last summer, nothing is truly off the table for Leeds, but this rumour is optimistic to say the least.

If a move did come off, it would make Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s recent complaints over a lack of game time look laughable.

The Northern Ireland number one was benched last season by Leeds after Kiko Casilla’s arrival.

He was quoted by the Yorkshire Post: “Obviously if I’m not going to play at Leeds then I’ll have to consider my options.”

These comments drew a scathing reaction from some Leeds fans who felt he was not in a position to be walking out on the club.

Buffon signing would quickly make Peacock-Farrell seem like an irrelevance.

As it is, the Italian’s move is pretty unlikely, but it underlines how quickly things could change for the Leeds youngster.

He needs to put his full focus on trying to displace Kiko Casilla in pre-season and re-establishing himself.
