Pundit Owen Hargreaves has told BT Sport that he thinks Everton have to bring in a new goalkeeper – but believes that Ronald Koeman is the perfect manager for the club.
The Toffees could only muster a 1-1 draw with bottom club Swansea City on Saturday afternoon, with Seamus Coleman’s last-gasp equaliser saving Koeman’s men from embarrassment at Goodison Park.
It’s now just one win in the last seven league games for Everton, who were thumped 5-0 at Chelsea before the international break, with manager Koeman encountering his first slump since leaving Southampton for Merseyside over the summer.
Koeman faces a return to former club Southampton this weekend, and he’ll be looking to snap this bad run of form as Everton fans begin to ask questions about recent performances and where the club are heading this season.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman
After Saturday’s game, pundit Owen Hargreaves spoke to BT Sport about Everton, and suggested that they must improve one particular position.
Hargreaves believes that Everton need to snap up a ‘world class goalkeeper’, as whilst they signed veteran stopper Maarten Stekelenburg over the summer, it’s one of the most important positions on the pitch, and Everton must improve there.
“I think they need a keeper,” said Hargreaves. “It’s one of the most important positions in the league, in any team. I know [they signed Stekelenburg], but I think you need a world class keeper.”

Hargreaves added that he thinks Koeman is the perfect manager for Everton, as he’ll take them to the next level, but a difference in philosophy – more of a direct style of play than under former boss Roberto Martinez – means it may take a little more time for him to completely turn the club around.
“I think Koeman is the perfect manager for them – they’re lucky to have him. I think he’s terrific, he’s proven that and I think he’s going to take them to an even bigger level. They play a different style now; they don’t have as much possession and they play more long balls, so they have a different philosophy now,” he added.
