According to Steve McManaman, Jordan Henderson gave Darwin Nunez “both barrels” as Liverpool struggled against Fulham earlier today.

What’s the story?

Well, just before the £140,000-a-week Liverpool man netted his first Premier League goal, he received a grilling from his captain at Craven Cottage after failing to track back and retrieve a loose ball in the 58th minute.

Speaking live on commentary duty for BT Sport, McManaman – who made 364 appearances for Liverpool – said: “Henderson’s just given Darwin Nunez both barrels”.

The Uruguay international’s lack of urgency on this particular occasion led to a chance for Fulham, and McManaman claims that the England international was left furious with his teammate for allowing the Cottagers to pick up possession.

There was surely no bad blood remaining between the pair, however, as Nunez flicked in an equaliser right in front of the travelling Liverpool fans, much to the delight of Henderson.

In truth, it was harsh of Jürgen Klopp to leave the South American on the bench after his superb display in the FA Community Shield win over Manchester City, in which he won a penalty to put the Reds ahead, before scoring to secure the victory.

Nunez also provided the assist for Mohamed Salah’s equaliser late in the game, proving to be a nuisance for Fulham’s defenders with his aerial prowess.

Darwin Nunez will learn quickly at Liverpool

Make no mistake about it, Nunez will not be allowed to stagnate at Liverpool for one second.

The likes of Henderson, Virgil van Dijk, James Milner and others will be on his back immediately if they believe he isn’t giving his all during games or in training, so we highly doubt we’ll see moments like what happened in the 58th minute earlier today again.

Furthermore, with fierce competition for his place in Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota, Klopp also won’t afford him much patience if he isn’t delivering the goods.
