Peter Crouch suggested on BT Sport 2 (5:45pm, December 3, 2020) that Harry Winks should leave Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.
The former Tottenham striker, who now works as a pundit for BT Sport, made the comments following Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho’s remarks on Winks.
The England international midfielder played well for Spurs in their win against Ludogorets Razgra at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Europa League last week.
However, the 24-year-old was left out of the Tottenham team for their Europa League game against LASK away from home on Thursday evening.
Before the game, Mourinho said that he left Winks out because of the options he has in midfield, and following the pre-match interview, Crouch suggested that Winks, as well as fellow England international midfielder Dele Alli, should look to move on with the European Championship coming up next summer.
Mourinho said about omitting Winks on BT Sport 2 (5:42pm, December 3, 2020), as transcribed by Football.London: “Options and I see the same kind of options everywhere in every country, even in our country, in our league with our top clubs. Good squad, lots of options, the tendency is for the squad to improve. In our case the squad this season is of course better than the squad I found last season when I arrived.”
Crouch responded on BT Sport 2 (5:45pm, December 3, 2020), as transcribed by Football.London: “I feel for both of them. We did the last game, against Ludogorets, and they were fantastic, Winks and Dele Alli. Then it comes to Chelsea on the weekend and they are not even in the squad, so the writing on the wall, really.
“I do feel sorry for them, but if they have aspirations to play in the Euros, they need football and they might have to consider their futures, because, at the moment, it looks like Mourinho doesn’t fancy them.”
The BT Sport pundit added: “I was playing for England and Liverpool and we signed Fernando Torres, and I had to move on because I wasn’t getting games. It did work out for me and I stayed in the England squad but Torres left soon after, so there was a little bit of regret there.
“But Harry Winks has been at the football club since he was a kid but he is not getting enough games. He is a fantastic player and perhaps it might be the time to move on, but it’s easier said than done.”

Leaving Tottenham Hotspur
Winks has been at Tottenham his entire professional club football career so far and is quite popular among the fans.
The easier option would be to find a new club, perhaps on loan, for the second half of the season.
However, the 24-year-old should fight for his place in the team, and he could well play a big role for Spurs in the coming months.
