Steve Sidwell said on BT Sport 1 (7:22pm, March 18, 2021) that there is a lot more to come from Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey.
The former Arsenal prospect, who played for Reading and Chelsea among other clubs, made the remarks during his co-commentary duties for the Europa League game between Arsenal and Olympiacos.
Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2020, came on as a substitute in the 57th minute.
The Gunners lost the second leg of the Europa League Round of 16 tie at the Emirates Stadium, but Mikel Arteta’s side went through on aggregate.
Sidwell said about Partey in the 68th minute of the match on BT Sport 1 (7:22pm, March 18, 2021): “We have only seen glimpses of how good he can be as well.
“He has got so much more to offer, pretty similar to how Tierney started, he had that injury, needs to build his confidence up, certainly loads more to come from Partey when he gets going.”
Next season will be big
Partey had injury problems this season, and that is a big reason why the defensive midfielder has not been at his best.
The 27-year-old did not have a pre-season with Arsenal, and one can understand why manager Mikel Arteta does not include him in each and every game even though he is fit now.
Sidwell made a good point about Tierney. The Scotland international left-back had injury problems in the first half of last season following his move from Celtic in the summer of 2020, but he is now one of the most consistent players in the team.
