Steve McManaman has suggested that Steven Gerrard could be managing Tottenham Hotspur before boyhood club Liverpool.

According to The Mirror last week, the Reds are ‘strongly pursuing’ the idea of hiring the Rangers boss at some point in the future.

Liverpool have been a shadow of themselves under Jurgen Klopp this season and with Gerrard bringing a Premiership title to Ibrox for the first time since 2011, his stock is at an all-time high – managerially speaking.

And although McManaman can easily see his former team-mate taking the job, he believes other clubs – like Tottenham or Manchester City – could look to swoop if it gets to a point where Klopp’s future on Merseyside is a lot more secure.

He told Horseracing.net when asked if he could see Gerrard returning to Anfield as manager: “Yes I could, of course I could.

“I mean all it depends on what Steven wants, but if Jurgen wants to manage Liverpool for the next 10 years and Steven gets an offer to manage, I don’t know, a Tottenham or a Man City, he might feel that’s more palatable than waiting for Liverpool.”

Tottenham themselves have been linked with a move for Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann – whose side lost to Liverpool in the Champions League last night – amid doubt over Jose Mourinho’s long-term future in North London.

But the Portuguese coach looks to have steadied the ship and results have dramatically improved in recent weeks.

As for Rangers, they won’t want to lose the 40-year-old anytime soon, and being honest, Gerrard probably has no intentions on leaving the club at this moment in time.

The iconic midfielder has watched Celtic dominate Scottish football in recent years and he might want to leave a dynasty of his own.
