David Moyes appeared to have fixed his side’s issues, but two poor results have West Ham facing danger again.
It looked as though West Ham United had fixed the problems with their defence after a poor start to the season.
A run of three consecutive clean sheets earned seven points from tough fixtures against Chelsea, Arsenal and Stoke City as things started to look up for David Moyes’ men.
But the Hammers have been brought crashing back down to Earth in their two most recent matches, conceding three as they lost to Newcastle United and then seeing Bournemouth net the same number in an entertaining draw.
Those two results have seen West Ham return to the brink of the relegation zone and Moyes must be struggling for answers to this latest collapse.
Whatever the cause – and it could be that the London club were too open in clearly winnable games – there must be a fix in the coming weeks as this is a crucial stretch of the season.
West Ham end the season with a daunting run of matches, facing current top-half sides in nine of their final 12 games.
The Hammers must therefore pick up points now, but that will be tough as long as they continue to ship goals; a return of one point from two matches after scoring five goals is concerning.
This should be Moyes’ chief focus over the next month, regardless of any January moves. Relegation looms large otherwise.
