After a drop in their performance levels last season, Leicester City look determined to bounce back with some impressive summer business.
Everton may have been making waves in this summer’s transfer window, but Leicester City are quietly going about some very impressive business, too.
The 2015-16 Premier League champions have wrapped up deals for Harry Maguire and Vicente Iborra, while the Daily Mirror reports that they are hopeful of soon completing a £25million move for Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho.
And, on Monday, the BBC reported a £40m bid from the Foxes for Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Everton are seen as the side most likely to break into the top six and – according to the Daily Mail – Sigurdsson is a player they are interested in, but Leicester are similarly determined not to slip back into the mid-table pack.
As defending champions, and distracted by a Champions League campaign, Leicester slumped to a 12th-placed finish last term.
Given they were promoted just three years ago, that might have been seen as a return to the norm at the King Power Stadium, but this ambition in the transfer market would suggest otherwise.
Iheanacho is a fine young striker who looks certain to score goals for Leicester, while a bid for Sigurdsson – even if it fails – shows that they are aiming high.
The Foxes appear ready to ensure their remarkable spell of the last few years continues.
