Anderlecht need a striker, Aleksandar Mitrovic needs a club. The Belgian giants are reportedly considering a loan swoop.
Aleksandar Mitrovic is a potential loan target for former club Anderlecht, according to HLN.
The Serbia international has been in inspired form for his country over the last couple of seasons, but those displays have not translated to the club stage.
At Newcastle United, Mitrovic has consistently found himself on the outskirts since Rafa Benitez’s 2016 arrival.
He has made just two substitute appearances this term, while, even in the Championship, opportunities have been few and far between.
It would make sense therefore that Anderlecht could look at a loan deal, with Mitrovic keen to impress in a World Cup year.
Serbia would not drop their star striker, but coach Slavoljub Muslin has just lost his job, meaning Mitrovic is not necessarily still a guaranteed starter if he is struggling for game time.
The 23-year-old scored 36 goals in two league campaigns in Belgium, earning a £13million move to boyhood club Newcastle.
While the switch has not worked out for either Mitrovic or the Magpies, the Newcastle United manager would surely be reticent to seal a deal that would leave the club requiring a replacement with little funds.
But, for Anderlecht and the player, this could be an ideal reunion.
