With Newcastle United likely to loan Adam Armstrong out again, Bristol City could provide the perfect platform.
Much is expected of Newcastle United’s Adam Armstrong after a string of fine performances as an England youth international in recent years.
The Geordie striker helped the Three Lions to victory at the U17 European Championships in 2014, then broke into the Newcastle first-team before enjoying a blistering 20-goal loan spell at Coventry City in the 2015-16 season.
But Armstrong’s momentum has slowed in the past year, with a disappointing spell at Barnsley – scoring six times in 34 Championship appearances – followed by some indifferent displays at this summer’s U20 World Cup despite England reaching the final on Thursday.
And opportunities at Newcastle look unlikely for the 20-year-old in the coming season, with fellow prospect Tammy Abraham set to land on loan from Chelsea, according to The Times.
However, Armstrong could benefit from the move for Abraham, who excelled as Bristol City’s first-choice striker last term and netted 26 goals in all competitions.
The Chelsea forward was never likely to return to Ashton Gate, but Lee Johnson will now require a replacement for his main man and could provide a platform for Armstrong to succeed on loan.
The Robins’ manager has already shown that he is willing to give youth a chance and, last season, played in a way that created chances for a sole striker.
Armstrong could be the perfect fit as he looks to get back on the goal trail.
