With Dimitri Payet leaving West Ham United in their debut campaign at the London Stadium, they are looking for a new star turn – and Joe Hart fits the bill.

West Ham United endured a tricky first season at their new London Stadium home.

The Hammers had qualified for European football in a thrilling final campaign at Upton Park, but then fell at just the second hurdle in continental competition and saw discontented star Dimitri Payet push through a move back to Marseille.

Payet had looked set to be the man who would light up the 57,000-seater arena, but the remainder of the season was a slog as West Ham finished 11th in the Premier League table.

This summer Slaven Bilic will look to boost his squad, although he has so far only been successful in the pursuit of free agent Pablo Zabaleta.

However, the BBC are crediting West Ham with an interest in out-of-favour Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart – and he certainly has the profile to be a star at the London Stadium.

Hart has endured a tough couple of years for club and country, but, at 30, he still has plenty left to offer and remains England’s first-choice keeper.

While the former Torino loanee may not offer quite the same excitement as Payet – a starter for France, one of Europe’s best sides – Hart has the quality, experience and character to be a big-name player at West Ham’s impressive ground.

With their rich history encompassing World Cup winners Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters, the Hammers do love an England star…
