Manchester City may not take a chance on Jack Harrison – from their MLS sister club – but he has the talent to play in England.
Manchester City have a wealth of attacking talent at their disposal – so much so that they have been able to loan out Patrick Roberts to Celtic again this season while feeling no ill effects from Jadon Sancho’s sale.
With Leroy Sane, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling the current wide options for Pep Guardiola, it seems unlikely that an up-and-comer will be given an opportunity any time soon.
And yet if City looked across the Atlantic to New York City FC – their sister club – they would find another immense young star.
Jack Harrison has been handed a first England Under-21 call-up after consistently impressing in MLS, scoring 14 goals across two league seasons.
International recognition was thoroughly deserved, but could it be that Harrison – born in Stoke-on-Trent and formerly of Manchester United – could also benefit from some time in the spotlight?
While MLS continues to grow, a big move to England would surely appeal – and that is much more likely with minutes for the Three Lions alongside the likes of Lewis Cook, Tom Davies and Dominic Solanke.
City are unlikely to look twice at Harrison, but he now has the chance to show other Premier League and Championship clubs that his talent can translate to the European game.
