It was going to be tough for Nottingham Forest to replace Britt Assombalonga and yet they have hit the jackpot with Daryl Murphy.

Britt Assombalonga is a proven Championship goalscorer and, for that, Middlesbrough paid a reported £15million – per the BBC.

Boro are looking to achieve promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt, making Assombalona a sensible and astute signing – particularly for a side who have struggled to score in previous years.

And yet, should Garry Monk’s side return to the top flight, Assombalonga does not offer the same guarantee in the Premier League; neither does Daryl Murphy.

Nottingham Forest turned a huge profit on Assombalonga as they brought in Murphy as a replacement.

After 10 games of the Championship season, Murphy has scored six times; the Boro man trails the Republic of Ireland international by one.

There is no doubt that Assombalonga is a more talented player than Murphy, but many fine second tier scorers have floundered after promotion.

Forest, this season, needed a player who would score at this level – and they got one while taking a big fee for a forward performing to a similar standard.

Murphy’s signing is surely the best piece of business a Championship club has done this year.
