Bryson DeChambeau is the hottest story in golf right now, but mostly for the wrong reasons.
DeChambeau would have been delighted with his round of eight-under par 64 at LIV Golf UK on Thursday, after the controversy he caused at The Open Championship last week.
The 32-year-old LIV Golf star caused all sorts of trouble at Royal Birkdale on Friday last week.
DeChambeau was penalized two strokes at The Open on Friday after he was deemed to have cleared his path to the back of the ball in the rough on the fifth hole at Royal Birkdale.
However, it was the two-time US Open champion’s reaction in the aftermath of receiving the penalty that caused most of the controversy.
DeChambeau threatened to pull out of the championship and suggested that he wanted to contact President Donald Trump in order to ask him to try and get the ruling overturned.
He has not spoken to the media since then, until today after his first round at LIV Golf UK.

DeChambeau posted an eight-under par 64 on day one at the JCB Golf & Country Club in England on Thursday.
And he spoke to Jerry Foltz after his round.
He was asked whether Lucas Herbert’s lightning quick start pushed him on to go low.
“Yeah, 100%,“ the 32-year-old replied.
“I mean, Lucas is on a heater right now, and seeing him go out and birdie the first few, and, you know, I was three-under through three, really proud of my game, looked up, I was like, ‘oh, what the heck is going on?’
“You know, it was definitely a motivating thing for me today.
“And I played some good golf. My irons are a lot better now, which I’m proud of myself for working on it and figuring something out.
“You know, just some little tweaks here and there with the driving and, you know, I played really well today.
“I felt like I could have given it a run for, you know, a sub 60 round, but I’m happy with the way I played.“
Bryson DeChambeau’s expectations on LIV Golf
He was asked whether he met his high expectations on day one at JCB.
“Yeah, definitely,“ he replied.
“I mean, shooting eight-under out here is no easy task. You know, shooting 11-under is a crazy task. That’s really cool, to see Lucas doing that.
“But I was proud of the way I handled myself. I took advantage of the par fives. You know, and kept playing well today.“
DeChambeau will undoubtedly be happy to be back inside the LIV Golf bubble this week.
He will be desperate to get back to doing what he does best – thrilling the galleries and winning golf tournaments.
A win at LIV Golf UK would be a great way for Bryson DeChambeau to put The Open Championship controversy behind him.
