Bryson DeChambeau has issued an interesting update on his future with LIV Golf with his contract set to expire at the end of the current season.

DeChambeau’s future has been under the microscope ever since his former rival Brooks Koepka decided to leave LIV and make a return to the PGA Tour at the start of the year.

Koepka’s decision did not spark a mass exodus – though Patrick Reed did subsequently leave – but it did appear to leave DeChambeau in a strong bargaining position in discussions.

That has potentially changed following reports from the Financial Times last week in which it was claimed that the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia plan to withdraw their funding of LIV Golf after the 2026 season.

Given the money invested so far, it is no wonder that many suspect that the end could be nigh for the league. It is hard to imagine anyone else coming in and being prepared to spend similar sums – and that could be pivotal in deciding DeChambeau’s future.

The Telegraph previously reported that DeChambeau wanted $500 million to sign a new contract.

But it seems that he may have altered his demands in the wake of the latest updates. Speaking to Flushing It at LIV Golf Mexico City, DeChambeau suggested that contract talks are continuing.

“We’re still working on a potential contract. I haven’t given up on that and I think there will be a solution,” he said. “But as of right now, my job is to help make the league work after this year. I just feel like I have a responsibility. I’ve put a lot of effort into it. So that’s what I’m going to do, we’re going to make this work.”

“As long as LIV is here, I would figure out a way for it to make sense,” he added.

The problem LIV Golf face in trying to keep Bryson DeChambeau beyond the season

Obviously, so much appears to be up in the air with LIV Golf right now. Clearly, those who believed that the league was on the brink of closure have been proven wrong.

But from the outside, there seems to be a sense that the league is facing a race against time to save itself. That will surely do them few favours as they look to try and convince DeChambeau to stay.

Similarly, any potential investors are surely going to be wary of getting involved while there are doubts over DeChambeau’s future.

He is arguably LIV’s biggest star, and losing him could have a significant impact. Thankfully for LIV, DeChambeau seems prepared to keep his options open.
