Leeds United’s surprise decision to send Lewie Coyle out on loan again is of clear benefit to youngster Bryce Hosannah.

Hosannah impressed for the under-23s last season after signing from Crystal Palace in the summer and made his debut for the first team on the club’s post-season tour of Myanmar.

The right-back performed well, enough to put himself into consideration for further chances.

Luke Ayling is the club’s first choice right-back, but he could be deployed as a centre-back by new boss Marcelo Bielsa.

After a successful loan at Fleetwood Town last season, Lewie Coyle was expected to come in and compete for a first team place, and in the process, leapfrog Hosannah in the queue.

The decision to renew his loan, until January at least, is going to be of benefit to Hosannah.

His first proper chance to stake a claim will be in pre-season, and Hosannah needs to make a good early impression.

If he can then the opportunity is there for him to earn a first team role this season, especially with Coyle temporarily out of the picture.
