Liverpool are currently on the lookout for new midfield options after reportedly pulling the plug on a move for Jude Bellingham.

According to The Times, the Reds will no longer pursue a move for the Borussia Dortmund and England star.

This is apparently due to the cost of the deal, which is expected to surpass £120million.

Jurgen Klopp reportedly feels numbers are more important than one big-money marquee signing.

Names of alternative options for Liverpool have been doing the rounds in wake of the latest Bellingham reports.

One of those is Alexis Mac Allister, who has been shining for Brighton and for Argentina.

Fabrizio Romano recently claimed on Twitter that Liverpool have approached the 24-year-old’s representatives.

As well as the Reds, Chelsea and Manchester United have also made contact, added the transfer insider.

English midfield legend Bryan Robson has now given his verdict on Mac Allister.

He told the Daily Mail: “Is growing with confidence and winning a World Cup will help, not that I’d ever know!

“Great going forward, gets in great areas and is good on set pieces. Splits defences with his passing.”

Our view

Mac Allister would be a solid addition to the Liverpool ranks.

He has been hailed as ‘incredible’ by Brighton’s Adam Lallana.

The former Liverpool midfielder’s opinion could well be valuable to Jurgen Klopp.

Mac Allister’s price tag reportedly stands at around £60million.

If Liverpool want quality at a lower price than Bellingham, then Mac Allister wouldn’t be a bad option.

He clearly has what it takes to impress at the highest level, and has a lot of Premier League experience.

And at just 24 years of age, he is still young and only just starting to approach his peak years.
