Sunderland full-back Bryan Oviedo has been out for much of pre-season so far with injury.

Bryan Oviedo has told the Shields Gazette that he is at Sunderland to stay… unless an offer comes in for him.

Oviedo only moved to Sunderland from Everton last January, but already there have been rumours about the Costa Rican’s future starting to emerge.

Oviedo has been tipped to leave Sunderland, following their relegation from the Premier League.

However, the full-back insists that he a season in the Championship could do him good.

“At the moment, I am here and I am training to play the Championship,” Oviedo said.

“I think that for me will be very good, as I will have fairly regular games and I will play in a tournament that is very competitive.

“We’ll see if another opportunity comes later, but for now I’m doing the pre-season and working to be here and start at 100 per cent.

“For me, it is very important to make a quiet decision and see what is best for the family and for me.

“Staying in Sunderland, playing and being in a good physical moment is very important for what is coming.”

Oviedo has missed Sunderland’s pre-season so far, due to injury, but he is closing in on a return to full fitness.

Oviedo’s comeback from the treatment table will be good news for Simon Grayson, as the attacking full-back could have an important role to play at Sunderland over the course of the upcoming campaign.

Oviedo has previously proven a solid player at Premier League level, and should be a stand out option in the Championship.

Sunderland get their season under way with a match against Derby County on Friday night, and it is not yet clear whether Oviedo will feature in that contest.
