Ally McCoist has stated that Liverpool need ‘two midfielders’ during the summer transfer window and suggested that players like Jordan Henderson need replacing.
The former Scotland striker added that Jordan Henderson has been ‘absolutely wonderful’ for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool over the years, as he told talkSPORT (16/05/23).
But he thinks a ‘minimum of two players’ will be needed to be purchased for the middle of the park, on top of possibly using Trent Alexander-Arnold in that role.

The England right-back has been playing a hybrid role for Liverpool of late, coming into midfield when the Reds have been in possession and then reverting to his usual spot when defending.
It has transformed the Anfield academy product’s season after he struggled for months and months, alongside his team.
But despite Liverpool winning seven on the bounce to keep their Champions League hopes alive, McCoist thinks changes are still needed.
“I think Liverpool are going to need a minimum of two,” said McCoist. “They have got Harvey Elliott as well. They have got some great young talent.
“Trent, going forward, is good as anyone – the goal against Leicester summed him up. Out of this world.
“But, in terms of the midfield area, Jordan Henderson, who I think has been an absolutely wonderful player. Fabinho as well. But I think they need to freshen up. I really do.
“If I was going to be brutally honest, I think Liverpool need two midfielders.”

HENDERSON TO PLAY THE MILNER ROLE?
James Milner has been the utility man for Liverpool over the years. From playing at right-back to filling in on the left flank.
But the 37-year-old is set to depart in the summer when his contract expires – Brighton could be his next destination.
With Milner heading out, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Klopp uses Henderson in various roles next season and he becomes more of a squad player, whilst new faces arrive to boost the first XI again.
