Bruno Guimaraes has told Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope that the stopper is his “hero” on Instagram, following Sunday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur. The Toon star also earned praise from Shay Given, among others.
Newcastle produced a wonderful display to go seven Premier League games unbeaten with the 2-1 win over Spurs. A fourth win in five matches, Newcastle have propelled themselves into the top four. A wonderful win over a good side.
Eddie Howe described the win as his side’s best performance since he arrived at the club. Callum Wilson scored after a mistake from Hugo Lloris, while Miguel Almiron continued his sparkling form from the right. Harry Kane netted, too.
Pope, 30, has clocked up 12 appearances for Newcastle since his move from Burnley in the summer. In that time, he has conceded just 10 goals – winning five clean sheets. He took to Instagram after the match, underlining his delight.
Guimaraes has told Newcastle goalkeeper Pope he is his hero
Every Newcastle player was excellent in North London on Sunday. Wilson and Almiron deserved their goals, the midfield worked incredibly hard – with Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock shining alongside Brazil star Guiamares again.
At the back, Sven Botman looks better and better with every minute he plays – coming up against Harry Kane. Kieran Trippier might have been slightly at fault for Kane’s goal, but he continues to show Gareth Southgate he is first choice.
Pope might have struggled on the England stage in the most-recent break. But for Newcastle, he is excelling. If he is second choice to Jordan Pickford, he is a lot closer to overtaking Pickford than being considered third choice.
Guimaraes hailed Pope as his “hero” on Instagram. The £10million Toon star also earned praise from the likes of Longstaff, Jacob Murphy and Botman – as well as ex-Toon goalkeeper Given.
