Kieran Trippier has suffered a broken metartarsal and will be on the Newcastle sidelines for the next few weeks in what is a huge blow to the Toon. Bruno Guimaraes and Shay Given were among those to react.

Trippier, 31, has been absolutely pivotal to Newcastle since his arrival at the club. His form, and of course, his two free-kicks against Everton and Aston Villa have been crucial in helping Newcastle climb out of the drop zone.

Ryan Fraser has described the England international as a “monster” following his January move from Atletico Madrid. The Scotland man has shared how good he has been both on, and off the pitch at Newcastle.

Trippier will now be forced to watch Newcastle over the course of the next few weeks. The Mail report that he is expected to return at some point this season, and the defender posted on Instagram after the news emerged.

Bruno and Given react as Trippier suffers huge Newcastle blow

Losing Trippier is enormous. Newcastle have three winnable games over the next couple of weeks – taking on an inconsistent West Ham, a struggling Brentford and then Brighton at home. Losing Trippier, then, is big.

Javi Manquillo is also struggling with an injury and if the Spaniard is out, it is likely to be either Sweden international Emil Krafth, or winger Jacob Murphy that comes in. But it will affect the entire team.

Trippier is a player that gets the best out of everyone. Losing one of your best players instantly reduces the confidence of his teammates and it might be, that Newcastle need to find another way to win in the next few weeks.

Bruno, and Joelinton, reacted by wishing Trippier the best of luck in his recovery – while Toon legend Given made it clear that his impact off the pitch still makes Trippier a crucial entity, even when injured.
