Manchester United went level on points with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table on Friday evening with a 2-1 win against Aston Villa.
Bruno Fernandes’s goal from the penalty spot in the 61st minute proved to be the winner at Old Trafford.
The result saw United go level on 33 points with leaders and defending champions Liverpool, with both the Red Devils and Reds having played 16 games.
Following the match last night, Fernandes was asked about challenging Liverpool for the title, and the Portugal international midfielder’s response was rather diplomatic.
Fernandes told BBC Sport: “Of course but it’s far away the end of the Premier League so we have to keep going, train hard and try to keep winning. You have to keep this mentality of winning and winning.”
Should Liverpool be worried?
Liverpool have been doing well this season and will fancy their chances of winning the Premier League title for the second time in a row.
However, United have been in good form in recent weeks and have actually won more league games than Liverpool so far this campaign.
Fernandes is in good form and is a very creative player, and United have quality footballers such as Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani.
Unlike last season, Liverpool are not running away with the title, and manager Jurgen Klopp will not take the threat from United lightly.
