Manchester United have one less decision to make in the coming months, with Casemiro announcing that he won’t be extending his stay at Old Trafford beyond the summer.

The Brazilian has confirmed he’ll leave when his contract runs out in June, opting to move on rather than wait for the club’s call on whether to trigger an extension clause.

United signed Casemiro from Real Madrid for £60m in 2022, and while his arrival raised a few eyebrows at first, he quickly became a fan favourite and leaves having made more than 100 appearances for the club.

He didn’t have it easy every year. The 2024/25 season was a rough one as he struggled to keep up with the pace of the league. But this year, he turned things around and became one of United’s most reliable players again.

In a post to his Instagram, Casemiro explained that he wanted to leave United while the fans would still remember him and hold him in high regard.

“Knowing when stages come to an end.”

“Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever.

“Four months to give my all for this badge and for our goal.”

“Eternal respect and affection for Manchester United and its wonderful fans.

“Forever Red Devil.”
