According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, Sporting playmaker Bruno Fernandes has decided to move on this summer after an attack on the club’s players.
Sporting missed out on a Champions League spot on the final day of the season, and their fans haven’t responded well to that disappointment.
As reported by BBC Sport, Sporting ultras staged an attack on the club’s players, leaving Bas Dost wounded and other players shaken at such absurd scenes.
Now, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo report that playmaker Bruno Fernandes has been left ‘terrified’ by the incident, and has decided that he wants to move on this summer, and was overheard claiming “It’s over, I’m leaving!” in training after the incident.
That would be music to the ears of those at Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, with The Mirror recently reporting that both teams wanted to sign the Portugal international.
Snapped up from Sampdoria last summer, Fernandes has starred this season with 16 goals and 12 assists in all competitions, and he looks set to star at this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
Fernandes has a €100million (£87million) release clause in his contract, and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool or Spurs – both in the market for creative reinforcements – launch a move for him this summer.
However, in light of the attack, Fernandes appears set on a move away, and the two Premier League teams may be looking to swoop in and save him.
