Well it isn’t transfer related, but there was still some big news from Newcastle United tonight.

The Magpies have announced that Kieran Trippier has signed a new contract at the club.

Trippier joined Newcastle from Atletico Madrid 12 months ago and has proven a revelation under Eddie Howe at St James’s Park.

The former Tottenham Hotspur right-back is easily one of United’s most important players as Howe’s side look to qualify for the Champions League this season.

Trippier himself reacted on Instagram.

Due to his importance at Newcastle, Trippier received a lot of messages of congratulations – including by two high-profile figures on Tyneside.

First, Bruno Guimaraes, his teammate at St James’s Park who also joined last January, wrote in response: “Very deserved bro”, followed by a love heart emoji.

And Mehrdad Ghodoussi, Amanda Staveley’s husband, also weighed in by responding: “So well deserved.”

Earlier in the day, Bruno had sent a cryptic tweet with the eyes emoji to indicate he knew something that the Newcastle faithful didn’t.

And this development, rather than something regarding Anthony Gordon of Everton, is probably what he was hinting at.

There could be transfer movement at Newcastle over the coming days, specifically about Gordon coming to the North-East.

But for now, news of Trippier’s extension is also big news for the club and as the two lads said, it’s richly deserved.
