Rangers defender Bruno Alves has revealed to The Scottish Sun how he watched the Old Firm derby against Celtic.

Pedro Caixinha’ side took on Celtic at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership last month.

The Bhoys headed into the match as favourites and picked up all three points courtesy of a 2-0 win.

Rangers defender Alves, who joined the Gers in the summer transfer window, did not feature in the game due to injury.

The 35-year-old Portugal international centre-back was in Spain for treatment on a calf injury during the Old Firm game.

The former FC Porto and Zenit Saint Petersburg star has revealed that he watched the Old Firm derby between Rangers and Celtic on his laptop.

“The injury was something I wasn’t expecting and the Old Firm game was one I was looking forward to,” Alves told The Scottish Sun. “The fixture against Celtic was one of the reasons I came to Rangers.

“It was an important challenge for me but I need to look forward and be ready for the next derbies. I was in therapy in Madrid and watched the game there on my computer.

“Of course it was very difficult to watch when you can’t help, but at the same time I trust my team-mates and the coach and the work we have been doing.”

Rangers will return to action this afternoon when they take on Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell at Hampden Park in Glasgow in the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup.

The Gers will head into the tie as favourites and should be able to progress to the final, where they will face Celtic.
