Pedro Caixinha’s Glasgow Rangers brought Bruno Alves to Ibrox in the summer transfer window.
Alves joined Scottish Premiership club Rangers in the summer transfer window on a free after leaving Italian club Cagliari at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.
The 35-year-old Portugal international centre-back has arrived at Ibrox with a strong reputation and is expected to play a key role in the Gers’ quest to challenge Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title this season.
The former FC Porto and Zenit Saint Petersburg star has revealed the conversation he had with Portugal international teammate Jose Fonte before his move to Pedro Caixinha’s Rangers.
Fonte, who is 33 years of age and also operates as a centre-back, is on the books of West Ham United in the Premier League at the moment, having joined the Hammers from Southampton in the January transfer window for a fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £8 million.
“I like to play hard, but I also like to play fair,” Alves told The Scottish Sun. “All of my career I liked to play like this, and many people I know told me I have moved to the right club and the right country, because the style of football here is what I like.
“I have a really good relationship with the West Ham defender Jose Fonte. When I told him about Rangers, he said: ‘Bruno, this is a good move for you’. He told me it was going to be physical, in Portugal, we say it is going to be your b***h.
“I’m enjoying this kind of environment, these kind of games. The players don’t stop, they fight for every ball. It is a very good experience for myself.”
