Bruno Alves says that Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha needs time to rebuild the squad.
Portuguese defender Bruno Alves has said that Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha needs time to build a winning squad.
Rangers have gone through a massive rebuilding process this summer, with Caixinha signing as many as nine new players.
However, the Portuguese manager came under severe criticism following an embarrassing Europa League qualifying defeat to Luxembourg minnows Progres Niederkorn.
Barrie McKay, former Rangers favourite, has criticised the Portuguese’s treatment of him, prior to his move to Nottingham Forest.
Bruno Alves celebrates
In his first media appearance following his switch from Cagliari, Alves, the Euro 2016 winner, has urged Rangers fans to show patience.
The 35-year-old says that Caixinha has not had enough time to build the squad and the club where it needs to be.
Alves adds that Caixinha is a coach with strong ideas and personality. He reckons that the Portuguese boss is the right man for the job.
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha before the match
“I played against his teams sometimes and I think he is a coach with a strong character, good ideas and I think he is the right person for this job”, said Alves, as quoted by The Daily Mail.
“He has a strong personality, real strong. I like the way he deals with the players, that’s important. I think and believe – it’s why I came here – that he will do a good job.
“He has not had enough time to build what he wants to build, and to put Rangers in the place the club needs to be.
“He is trying to get over his ideas and that takes time. Nothing comes so fast. He should have time to prepare even though time is running.”
Alves is a vastly experienced defender who has won titles in Portugal, Turkey, and Russia. He has made 93 appearances for his country, scoring 11 goals.
