Newcastle United beat Hibernian 3-1 on Tuesday night.

Steve Bruce the manager of Newcastle United looks on during a pre-season friendly match between Preston North End and Newcastle United at Deepdale on July 27, 2019 in Preston, England.

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has told The Northern Echo that he thinks Joelinton already loves playing with Miguel Almiron – but wants the pair to be more clinical.

The Magpies were in pre-season action again last night, taking on Scottish side Hibernian at Easter Road, and they had to come from behind to claim a 3-1 win.

Stevie Mallan put Hibs in front early on, but Newcastle hit back, with Javi Manquillo crossing for Joelinton to fire his first Newcastle goal since his club-record move last week.

Sean Longstaff then put Newcastle ahead with a fine finish, before a second half goal from Jamaal Lascelles rounded off a comfortable win.

With just over a week to go until the new Premier League season, Bruce will be pleased with the win, and especially the performance of Joelinton.

It’s imperative that Newcastle get the Brazilian hitman firing quickly, and having won a penalty with his first touch against Preston North End on Saturday, he’s now off the mark in terms of goals.

Bruce has now suggested that you can already see how much Joelinton loves playing with Miguel Almiron, with the duo leading the Newcastle attack last night to great effect.

Bruce hailed both players as a threat, believing they complement each other well, but did highlight a problem with both players – that they need to be more clinical in front of goal, something for the duo to work on as Bruce hailed their displays.

“All strikers want to score, let’s hope this is one of many. He is up and running, you can see the huge appetite in the boy,” said Bruce. “They’re a threat and they’ve already enjoyed playing with each other, you can see that straight away. They will be a threat to anybody. They both can run and they complement each other.”

“They could be a little bit more clinical, but overall I was very, very pleased with the performance of the two of them,” he added.
