Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has told the club’s official website that Elliot Anderson has been impressing him in training.

Anderson earned his Premier League debut last night, as he came on for the closing minutes in their 3-0 defeat against Arsenal.

Newcastle had very few positives to take from yesterday’s game at the Emirates Stadium.

However, Anderson’s cameo appearance was one, as the youngster pushes ever closer to Newcastle’s first-team.

And Bruce says that he has been impressed by what he has seen from the teenager.

“He’s got a big future ahead, that’s for sure,” Bruce said. “He’s been training with us and looking the part.

“He’ll remember his debut at the Emirates, that’s for sure.”

It has been a long time since Newcastle produced a truly top talent through their academy, but there are very high hopes for Anderson.

The 18-year-old midfielder has looked a class above in development squad matches this season, and he could well receive more game time as the campaign progresses, with Newcastle in desperate need of a spark.
