Aston Villa welcome Sheffield Wednesday to Villa Park tomorrow.
Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce
Villa boss Steve Bruce spoke to the media ahead of his side’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow, and drew attention to the threat posed by Owls striker Jordan Rhodes, highlighting how much of a challenge it will be for his defence to contain the striker, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.
The 27-year-old moved to Hillsborough from Middlesbrough on loan until the end of the season on transfer deadline day, and has already impressed, scoring three goals in eight outings for Carlos Carvalhal’s men.
Bruce was reportedly interested in bringing Rhodes to the club in January (the Sun), but chose to pursue the signing of Scott Hogan instead – a decision that could come back to haunt him tomorrow.
And the Villa boss warned his side of how dangerous the Scotland international hitman can be, when speaking to reporters, as quoted via Aston Villa’s official Twitter account:
Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes celebrates
“Jordan Rhodes has been a proven goalscorer. He will be a threat tomorrow. It’s a big challenge for us.”
The Villans’ recent resurgence was brought to a screeching halt with a defeat at Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night, and they will be looking to bounce straight back against Wednesday tomorrow.
With 17 points separating the two clubs in the league table though, Bruce’s men have surely left it too late to make a late charge for the play-off spots.
