Newcastle United fans have a lot to be happy about this season. No risk of relegation, Allan Saint-Maximin’s brilliant form and a potential takeover that would bring in ambitious new owners to help take the club back to the top. What more can a Magpies fan ask for?

Steve Bruce has also been accepted by many Newcastle fans for his fantastic job this season. However, the one massive positive for the Magpies this term has been Miguel Almiron.

The Paraguayan, a club-record signing when he arrived last season, struggled to be among the goals. Almiron failed to manage a single goal or assist last term which was a real worry.

His awful record continued up until the end of November before he finally broke his duck. Almiron has since scored eight goals in all competitions and is one of the club’s most important players.

Bruce deserves a lot of credit for sticking by him despite his problems in front of goal. The Newcastle boss is delighted with Almiron’s performances and labelled the Paraguayan as ‘a manager’s dream’.

Bruce said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter handle: “Almiron is a manager’s dream. He’s bright, he’s tough, he trains every day and he’s been carrying a thigh injury but doesn’t want to tell anybody.

“The last 20 minutes on Sunday (against West Ham United) he was limping about the pitch. In 18 months he’s proved to be a really top, top player.”

Almiron still has a lot of offer

Almiron has certainly become a very good player for the Magpies but the best is yet to come. The 26-year-old can offer a lot more in the final third and, if he can keep improving, he can manage something between 12 and 15 goals a season for the club.

If the takeover does happen and Almiron sticks around, he will potentially be surrounded by players of higher quality and he can thrive among them for Newcastle next season.
